Suzanne White has been on quite a journey with walking football, and it’s been a game-changer for her. It’s not just about kicking a ball, but it’s transformed her mental and physical health. She used to have a pretty sedentary life, but now, she’s a whole new person, full of energy, confidence, and vitality.
Our Walking Football session takes place every Monday between 5:30pm – 6:30pm at Nene Valley Community Centre.
Below are some insights directly from Suzanne herself. In a question-and-answer session, she’ll share her personal experiences and the impact walking football has had on her life.

How did you first get involved in the walking football sessions, and what motivated you to join?
I joined walking football as I used to play ladies football prior to covid and was looking for something physical to do as have a busy job in NHS. I’ve always loved football and wanted to have a go as a way of exercising but having fun away from work. As I have attended sessions before with Posh Foundation, I felt they were well run so decided to give it a go. Plus, I was looking for a way to improve my fitness, and this seemed like a low-impact option.
Can you describe any physical improvements you’ve noticed since participating in the program?
I used to feel sluggish and lacking in energy but now, I feel more alive and more active than ever. With my job I am used to sitting at a computer screen most days, so this has given me the opportunity to get moving. I have improved my cardiovascular health, and even my balance has gotten better. I feel physically stronger and healthier.
In what ways has walking football positively impacted your mental well-being? Have you noticed any changes in your mood, stress levels, or overall mental health?
I work full time and walking football gives me the headspace I need once a week that’s meaningful and fun. I feel more confident and less stressed once I finish the session each week.
Have you noticed any positive changes in your overall quality of life since starting the walking football sessions?
Yes, it a nice group and nice to meet new people and I have made some amazing friends. Everyone has different backgrounds and abilities so lovely to be part of a session where everyone is included and enjoying the same activity. I feel I’m improving my football skills which you would never think I would do in my 40’s.
Are there any specific moments or achievements in the programme that stand out to you as particularly meaningful or impactful?
Just coming every week and taking part is enough, scoring the occasional goal is just a bonus.
Can you share any advice or encouragement for individuals who might be considering joining a walking football session’s but are hesitant?
Just give it a go. We are a group of men and women of all ages and abilities. Posh foundation staff are supportive and encouraging so the session is as fun as possible.
Anything else you would like to add or share?
Monday at 5:30 is one of my favourite times of the week!
