Both Peterborough United Foundation NFYL Football & Education Programme teams were in action this week as the boys hosted Plymouth, whilst the girls had a long trip and overnight stay at AFC Bournemouth.
A five-star performance and a winning penalty rounded up a good day for both our sides- here is how the action unfolded!
POSH BOYS NFYL
The Posh Boys NFYL team knew a good result was needed as they faced 2nd in the league against Plymouth who still have games in hand and a loss could result in them losing their place at the top of the NFYL South Premier Division table. Just 3 points separate first and fifth, so every game is a must win for Bruno Porfirio and Harvery Gordon’s side.
Posh started quick as they get an early corner where a great save from Plymouth’s keeper denies Posh from an early opener.
A quick transition for Posh saw Archie Waterland cautioned for a foul on the edge of the box and gives Plymouth a good chance on goal but is held safely by Alfie Bird.
Matthew Drought came close with another chance for Posh as he pulls it back for the onrushing forward, but the shot is saved again by Plymouths keeper and cleared off the line denying Posh of their opening goal.

Posh piling on the pressure but two more fantastic saves keep the score level at 0-0.
Closely followed by a long throw from Alfie Grimwood which falls to Woodhouse, but his volley sees the ball just wide of the goal which sees the first half close at 0-0.
And Posh NFYL started the second half with speed and aggression as Jack Maltby-Smith gets on the end of a great nodded ball through from Fin Rawlings and MALTBY-SMITH drives his shot into the far bottom corner to put Posh 1-0 up!
Hooke wins it high and squares the ball to Wright, but the angle is narrowed off by the keeper who makes yet another save, keeping Plymouth in the game.
The chances keep flowing for Posh as Raphael LAZAR gets the final touch at the near post from a corner to double the Posh NFYL’s lead!

Plymouth got one back as a wide freekick is flicked goalwards and finds its way in at the far post, closing the gap of Posh’s lead.
Good play from Posh and finds Drought but his effort on goal is straight at the keeper keeping the result close.
After a blatant foul in the box Posh win a penalty and its Kai WOODHOUSE converted from the spot into the side left net to keep the gap between the 2 teams.
Another quick goal for Posh as a determined run from HOOKE gets through on goal and beats the keeper to the ball as he taps it into the goal to make it 4 for Posh.
The chances don’t stop but no more goals result from it as Drought, Woodhouse and Mortell’s chances are all denied.
A good day for Posh NFYL Boys as they showcase why they are top of the table with a 5-star performance.

POSH GIRLS NFYL
After a good result last week against Chelsea, the Posh Girls NFYL team take a long trip down to Bournemouth to try and carry on their good streak in their South Women’s Premier Division clash.
They started well and almost took an early lead as Maddie Parry strikes a freekick but had too much curl on it and flies past the bar.
Another great chance came for Posh as Tori Moisey received the ball in the box and goes for power but a great save by Bournemouth’s keeper who denies the goal as she tips the ball over the crossbar.
Antonina Such came close for Posh as she goes 1 on 1 with Bournemouth’s keeper but the ball drifts just past the post, denying Posh of their opening goal.
The girls see the first half close at 0-0 after several chances but unlucky not to get a goal.
The second half is back underway and Posh comes out with a new drive as an early chance for Milena Jasiolek goes 2v1, but the keeper makes another good save who stops it from rolling underneath into her goal.
A big chance for Posh as Jasiolek goes down in the box and wins posh a penalty.
JASIOLEK calmly passed her penalty into the left corner and puts Posh 1-0 up against AFC Bournemouth.
All goes quiet in the second half as Posh get a couple more chances but defend their 1-0 lead to bring home the 3 points.
