Just two games this week for our Football & Education sides, as the Posh Girls NFYL team hosted Oaklands Wolves, whilst Posh Boys CEFA travelled to Steven Gerrard Academy.
POSH GIRLS NFYL
The Posh Girls NFYL team were hoping to build upon their out of possession performance in last weeks’ game against Northampton with some offensive output as Oaklands Wolves visited the Bespoke Builds Training Ground.
Their hope was dashed slightly in the opening exchanges, though, as the visitors saw a goalbound effort cleared off the line by Emma Pilling in the opening minute.
And it wasn’t long until they did hit the back of the net, when a through ball between the Posh right back and centre back saw the Oaklands forward smash her shot into the top corner.
They doubled their lead shortly after, when a deep free kick near the half way line was nodded into the back of the Posh net by the Oaklands centre back.

And after a period of play taking place largely in the middle of the pitch, Oaklands grabbed a third when their forward pounced on a miss-kick and tapped into the empty net.
Milena JASIOLEK put Posh on the board before half time with a low, left footed shot into the bottom corner, to breathe confidence back into the Posh team for the second half.
They started the second half brightly and went close through Jasiolek and Antonina Such, who both sent efforts over the crossbar.
Posh threatened again when a dangerous delivery from Tori Moisey was met by the head of Edyn Osker, but her effort was saved.

Oaklands made it four with a counter attack which saw them break at pace and their forward applied the finishing touch with a good effort into the far bottom corner.
Posh briefly threatened a grandstand finish when OSKER nodded in from a deep free kick, but the away side returned home with all three points.
FINAL SCORE: Posh NFYL 2-4 Oaklands Wolves
Posh XI: Rees (GK), Cooper, Biggadike, Pilling, Edwards, Moisey, Parry, Coloma, Cook, Such, Jasiolek
Subs: G.Smith (GK), Osker, Krajewska, Wilkinson

POSH BOYS CEFA
A disappointing late cancellation from Posh NFYL’s prospective opponents meant the Posh CEFA team were the only boys’ team in action this week, as they took a break from league play with a friendly at Steven Gerrard Academy’s Nottingham based setup at Stapleford Town.
SGA threatened early with several balls over the top, which put pressure on the Posh backline.
The home side took the lead when another ball over the top found their winger, who sent it across the face of goal for the striker to tap home.
Posh finally got settled and started to move the ball better. A long diagonal ball found Alfie Grimwood out on the left wing, and he beat his marker before drilling a ball across for Zak WILD to tap in.
They had a couple of chances with the game even at 1-1, but they couldn’t convert. Another cross from Grimwood fell into the box, but Joe Walker and Herbie Hilliard couldn’t get on the end of it, before Tom Pearson’s attempt on the second ball was cleared.
Posh CEFA were undone again when another long ball found their winger, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
A disappointing first half, but Posh CEFA’s half time subs got them going again, with some impressive passes in behind. But they were struggling to find the final finish to cap off some decent moves.
But the pressure of the opening 15 minutes of the second half paid off when Jack SUTTON broke through and, despite offside appeals from SGA, calmly converted his one-on-one chance to make it 2-2.
SGA started to dominate again though as their winger again got the better of his marker and found the delivery for the SGA forward to smash into the roof of the net.
The home side added number four from the penalty spot, despite the best efforts of Jakub Dabrowski who guessed the right way but couldn’t keep it out.
Steven Gerrard Academy went on to dominate the remainder of the game and comfortably hold on to the victory.
FINAL SCORE: Steven Gerrard Academy 4-2 Posh CEFA
Posh XI: Dabrowski (GK), Hill, Mortell, Ashley, Lazar, Spencer, Hilliard, Pearson, Walker, Wild (C), Grimwood
Subs: Woodhouse, Waterland, Thomas-Wright, Sutton, Krzanicki
