We recently spoke to Matt and Karen, who regularly attend our weekly chair-based exercise session at the Dementia Resource Centre, about the mental and physical benefits they’ve experienced thanks to the session.

Matt and Karen have been attending our Chair Based exercise classes at the Dementia Centre since January, after the couple were advised by Nurses to keep more active and interact with more people, as this is good for the brain. Their overall goal was to take part in more physical activity as this would help keep the brain healthy and happy.
The chair-based exercise classes keep Karen active and have increased her feeling of happiness and both of them look forward to the session every week. Upon completion of sessions, Matt and Karen told us they feel great afterwards.
“It makes us feel healthier and happier and we can easily implement the exercises into our daily lives”
Matt mentioned that attending the exercise classes help Karen associate with other people that are living with Dementia and helps her interact with them too. Karen and Matt told us that they feel the classes are always enjoyable and fun, and they enjoy having a good laugh with the lovely coaches at Peterborough United Foundation.
The couple had nothing negative to say about the sessions and told us that there are no barriers that stop them from attending the sessions. And nothing makes them feel uncomfortable once they’ve arrived at the session.
As always, we’re delighted to receive such wonderful feedback and we’re proud of the work we’re doing in our community.
If you, or someone you know, has dementia, then why not join us every Friday, 1pm-2pm at the Dementia Resource Centre in Peterborough, for an informal, fun hour of chair-based exercise? It’s a brilliant chance to meet other people living with Dementia, share experiences and benefit from an hour of gentle physical activity.
