Peterborough United’s Men’s First Team aren’t the only Posh team to have won silverware in recent days, as Peterborough United Foundation’s Girls Elite Centre have enjoyed successes of their own.
Peterborough United Foundation’s Girls U12 Peterborough & District Junior Alliance League (PDJAL) team were the first to claim silverware, winning the EDP National Finals in Brentford. They beat Shrewsbury Town and Swindon Town, both by a 1-0 scoreline, before drawing 0-0 with Brentford to ensure the tournament trophy would return to Peterborough.
Then, a day after Posh’s Wembley success, Peterborough United Foundation’s U10 Elite side travelled to Shrewsbury for their own EDP National Finals. Posh drew 1-1 with Swindon Town, before defeating Shrewsbury Town 3-0 and Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 to add further silverware to Peterborough United Foundation’s growing trophy collection.
Tom England, Girls Scholarship Coach, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of both our younger age groups both reaching the EDP finals for the very first time. Reaching the finals was an achievement in itself but to go on and win it shows how far our girls Elite programme has come.
Our girl’s elite and development centres have come a long way and the success of both of these age groups shows the bright future we have ahead at our centre. The coaches work incredibly hard with every age group and it’s great to see the winning mentality and belief from all our age groups.”
Further chances at silverware are right around the corner for Peterborough United Foundation, with three Foundation teams embarking on a tour of Holland. Their Boys U16 JPL team, along with the Girls Scholarship team and Girls U16 Elite group will all take to the field in the Easter Open, looking to make it third time lucky for the Foundation’s trips to the tournament.
And the U12 PDJAL team have the chance to make it a double for their own season on Sunday 27th April, as they face Bilsworth FC in the Northamptonshire U12 Girls County Cup Final.
