Our boys’ scholarships teams are well underway in their respective seasons, with the Boys A competing in the NFYL South Premier Division and the Boys B in CEFA South East Three. Both teams have enjoyed successes in league and cup so far this term and have plenty to play for in the New Year.
The A team have stepped up a league from last season, and after a tricky start have begun to find their feet. A 4-2 victory over JMA Reading would stand out as a highlight game so far as Posh were victorious on the day against a Reading side who sit second in the league.
Successes in the league against Volenti Academy and Queens Park Rangers have been followed up recently with progress in the League Cup after beating Lincoln City 2-0. The A team will look to build on a steady start to life at their new level following the Christmas break.
The B team are looking to compete for back-to-back league titles and, despite a few bumps in the road, are on course to be challenging come the end of the season.
An opening day defeat away to Portsmouth was a setback but the team have bounced back to lose just one more game since then in both league and cup.
Posh B were placed in a challenging cup group including Luton Town and Charlton Athletic sides from leagues above, but victories over Charlton and Norwich City saw them qualify for the knockout stages as group winners.
Convincing league wins against Millwall, Stevenage and Brentford have kept the team on the tails of current league leaders Watford, who Posh B play in the last game of the calendar year.
Boys Scholarship Coach Brad Rayner said, “It’s been a pleasing start to the season overall, however there are always areas we know we can do better! This group of players is full of potential which we can see day in and day out. After Christmas, the challenge is consistency and if both teams can find that then they’ll both be in and around the top end of their leagues come the end of the season.”
