The Posh A and Posh Girls Scholarship sides both took to the field on Wednesday afternoon for their final fixtures before the Christmas break.
Posh A
The Posh A scholarship team travelled to Chelsea in their NFYL fixture on Wednesday afternoon.
The game got off to the perfect start for the Posh, who hit the front in the opening moments of the game through a Joey Buckingham effort.
But unfortunately, that was as good as it got for the Posh. Chelsea levelled after ten minutes, before Posh keeper Elliott Gale was sent off and a penalty was awarded with just 16 minutes played.
Tom England replaced Gale in the Posh net, but the penalty was dispatched to put the home side ahead. They added a third goal five minutes later to give the ten men of Posh a mountain to climb.
The second half was always going to be a struggle, but the Posh did well to hold firm for the first half of the second half. But eventually, Chelsea did find a fourth with 76 minutes played, before two further goals hit the back of the net in the final ten minutes to secure their three points.
The result leaves Posh in seventh position in the NFYL table with games in hand on three of the teams above them as they head into the Christmas period.
The Posh A team are next in action against Wycombe Wanderers on 12th January, when they return to league action after the Christmas break.
FINAL SCORE: Chelsea KH 6-1 Posh A
Posh Girls
The Posh Girls scholarship team were in cup action on Wednesday afternoon, as Luton Town visited the idverde Training Ground.
Posh were always in control of the first half, but found themselves limited to shots from distance, few of which troubled the Luton goalkeeper.
And the half continued in the same way, that was until the deadlock was finally broken by the Posh on the stroke of half time. When Piper O’Neill whipped a corner in, it fell at the feet of Renai Bennett, who tapped the ball into the unguarded Luton net.
And it took the Posh ten minutes to double their advantage though another O’Neill corner. This time, it was met by a bullet header from Niamh Connor, to put Georgia Clarke’s side 2-0 up.
The majority of the second half was played at a slow pace, with numerous injuries breaking up the game.
O’Neill, Sasha Tristram, Elloise Copson and Chelsea Burr all went close for the Posh in the closing stages, but in the end they had to settle for just the two goals and three more points in their CEFA Womens Cup group.
The next time the Posh Girls will play is on the 5th January, as they make the long trip to take on Bristol Rovers in league action. Posh won the home fixture against the Pirates by a huge score line of 17-0, so they’ll travel to Bristol in confident mood for their first game of 2022.
FINAL SCORE: Posh 2-0 Luton Town
